when it comes to years, this is how i do things now: the regular id3 year tag is always the year the album originally released. if the cd is a remaster, i'll put the remastered year in the album title.
so: album: Back in Black (Remaster 2002) date: 1980 that way i don't need any plugins and its very cross app. it will allow me to group eras of music appropriately in almost any app, and still properly ID the album version. for comps / VA / singles its a bit more complex... the best way would be to assign the correct year for each individual track, but honestly who has time for that? i generally assign a "close" year, so if its say a funk CD, i'll put 1977 if thats a good average among all the tracks. i rarely if ever need to annotate the remaster status or cd production year in the album title of these kinds of cds. the bottom line for me now is to try to use the id3 year tag to represent the year the individual song first ever debuted, but not to worry about perfect accuracy on comp cds. -- MrSinatra www.lion-radio.org using: sb2 & sbc (my home) / sbr (parent's home) - w/sc 7.3.4b - win xp pro sp3 ie8 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - 1tb wd usb2 raid1 - d-link dir-655 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59963 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
