Yeah, the term metadata was obscure to me when I started doing a lot of
ripping. It's just the information about the music that allows you to
sort, find, make playlists, etc -- things like album name, track name,
album artist, track artist, etc etc. Having this stuff right is really
essential if you have a significant collection. The dBp metadata
function is great, but not perfect for obscure titles.

AccurateRip is also cool, but not huge unless you are a SERIOUS
audiophile interested in ensuring that your rip was absoutely perfect.
Even then it's not perfect. I have ripped MANY CDs where the disk was
not in AccurateRip, or not in enough quantity to give me a judgment.
There were also times where I was clearly ripping a somewhat different
pressing of an album, where EVERY track came up as a bad rip.

Aside from ripping, dBp has a core function which is converting music
files from one type to another. It does this superbly, with many useful
tools. You can convert a large library, leave it chugging away for as
long as it takes, and with a multi processor system that won't be all
that long -- dBp Reference will use each processor separately,
multiplying the speed of the conversion.

I don't object to the $5 per year for Metadata, and don't know if I'll
upgrade dBp when the next major upgrade comes by. It would have to have
serious features not in the current version.
