There's a lot of inconsistency in the way artists are displayed at the track level. Contributing artists are seen as track artists, so they're listed at the track level. A common way of tagging an album with guest artists might be: TRACK=1 TITLE=The Lady Is A Tramp ALBUM=Duets ALBUMARTIST=Frank Sinatra ARTIST=Frank Sinatra ARTIST=Luther Vandros TRACK=2 TITLE=What Now My Love ALBUM=Duets ALBUMARTIST=Frank Sinatra ARTIST=Frank Sinatra ARTIST=Aretha Franklin For the track, sometimes you'll see: - Frank Sinatra, Luther Vandros But sometimes the album artist is listed, then all of the track artists: - Frank Sinatra, Frank Sinatra, Luther Vandros I'm looking at the display of a Squeezebox Touch right now, and see only the album artist. This isn't very helpful. And sometimes the album artist doesn't even appear on a few tracks in an album. - Frank Sinatra Generally speaking, you don't want to tag every contributing artist who appears on every track, as one might do with jazz recordings. You just end up with a big mess. I'd love to tag albums like this, but it really requires a different tag from ARTIST, so that it can be handled differently. Maybe... TRACK=1 TITLE=Split Kick ALBUM=A Night at Birdland - Volume 1 ALBUMARTIST=Art Blakey PERFORMER=Clifford Brown PERFORMER=Lou Donaldson PERFORMER=Eric Dolphy PERFORMER=Horace Silver PERFORMER=Curly Russell Until Squeezebox Server can do this, you're better off without all of the contributing artists in ARTIST tags. Or, you just have to live with a very cluttered display when playing a track tagged that way. -- JJZolx Jim ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72951 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
