I think there's an option in the settings somewhere to enable/disable the writing of the "Album Artist", but I don't rip with dBPowerAmp myself, so I can't remember specifics.
Of course, it's not really Album Artist that it's writing to for mp3 tags (it writes to TPE2, which is Band/Orchestra). You can look at your rips in Mp3Tag (look in Extended Tags to get a list of all tags that have been set).
