My issue revolves around whether it's possible to view the data contained in an "Album Artist" or "Band" tag when viewing the "Now Playing" screen on the Duet Controller.
My files are almost entirely FLAC and I'm using (I believe) FLAC tags, not other types. I use dbpoweramp's RipNas essentials for initial tagging (during ripping), and then edit using either dbpoweramp or MP3 Tag. I have SB Classics and a Duet Controller. I'm running the latest official version of SC. And, my issue does not pertain to compilation albums or various artist discs. Here are my questions (and, I apologize in advance, some lengthy background info): My files contain an Album Artist tag, which is simply the name of the artist who released the disc (e.g., the disc "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis would contain an Album Artist tag reading "Miles Davis"). Then, I'll set "Artist" tags for any other musicians who perform on the various songs - these tags exclude the name of the album artist. On the web interface, and Controller, the "Artist" tags display as "track artist," which is fine w/me. I have had problems, though, when it comes to viewing Album Artist in the "Now Playing" screen. To be specific, the Classic and web interface cannot be set (as far as I can tell) to display Album Artist (or even albumartist) during "Now Playing. To get around this problem, I've added a "Band" tag to all my files. The Band tag simply replicates the Album Artist tag - in other words, both tags have identical info. I then have the web interface and player displays set to show Title from Album by Band. Thus, when viewing either, I'll see Title X from "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis. If I change the settings to display Title from Album by Album Artist, I'll see Title X from "Kind of Blue" by Album name, followed by the track artists. In other words, rather than displaying the data from the Album Artist tag, SC is reading Album and Artist independently and displaying the data associated with those discrete tags (just for kicks, I tried setting the displays to Album by Albumartist, also w/no luck. Rather than showing the info. from the Album Artist tag, the displays literally scroll the phrase "albumartist). In short, there seems to be no way for the player display or web interface to show info. contained in an Album Artist tag. That's not really a problem as long as the displays can be directed to use the "Band" tag info. The more serious issue arises w/respect to the "Now Playing" info. displayed on my Duet Controller. Like the web interface and Classic, the Controller apparently cannot display info. from the "Album Artist" tag in the "Now Playing" screen. Unfortunately, while the inability to show Album Artist can be alleviated via the Band tags in the Classic and web interface, the same solution does not work w/the Controller. And, that's bec. the Controller does not seem able to display the data from the "Band" tags in its "Now Playing" Screen. What the Controller does display while playing a file is the title of the particular track, followed by the name of whatever artist is the first listed in the "Artist" tags. By way of example, sticking w/"Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis, I have "Artist" tags for each of the performers on that disc. So, for instance, if I play the track "All Blues," on which John Coltrane and Bill Evans (among others) performed, the "Now Playing" info reads: All Blues, followed by John Coltrane, and then the name of the disc. Does anyone know of any way to get the Controller to use either the "Album Artist" or "Band" tag rather than an "Artist" tag when displaying "Now Playing" info? One quick fix that I came up w/would be to simply populate the first "Artist" tag w/the name of the album artist. But, that "solution" doesn't really resolve the problem adequately and then leads to redundant info in my libraries and displays.
