Thanks for the explanation bobkoure, because I tried Wirruna's suggestion but it didn't seem to do the renaming of files or directories. I've since confirmed over on the dBpoweramp forum that dBp can't do what I want (http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?p=97416). spoon doesn't spell it out, but I suppose the translation is made to the tags as well as the filename.
I was able to define an action in mp3tag that does the conversion, so I'll work with that for now.
