I was trying to show it was possible. Whether it's -practical- is a
valid question.

I see a use for it in making a custom display. For example, I have a
display where I show the track count in an alternative format. Instead
of showing 5/12, I show 12:5 on the display. My reasons for that
probably aren't worth talking about.

It reads the tracknum tag verbatim and stores it. If the tracknum tag
is in the  "5/12" format discussed above, then Squeezebox Server stores
the track count in its database. I trust you already know this, and I
also take your point that it doesn't store it by itself.

I'm curious if you store your track data in the X/YY format, or just X
format, or not at all?

In your scenario you might want to know that your own tracks four and
fifteen from that album and that the album has 18. Maybe not.
