Thanks for all the input. After I read aubuti's post, I frogged around with winamp for a while. It's an irritating application in that it doesn't appear to behave as most (almost all?) windows apps do.
I ended up actually tagging some files, but I couldn't describe the steps I went through at this time. I also can't explain how winamp stuck some of the files in a folder where they didn't belong. I've been ripping and tagging for only a couple of weeks, but have gotten accustomed to EAC and mp3tag, so I think I'll take Sinatra's advice and find out how EAC can access Gracenote.
