Don't give up, I'm proof it works. At least you got rid of the 3.1 and
it did something. Did you do a clear and rescan?  If not try that.  In
the extended tags you didn't see a band tag?  Do you still have sort by
band checked and treat tpe2? as band?  One thing you could do is pull a
copy of some albums that are showing up as both track artist and album
artist into another folder and then make that your library folder for
experimenting so that it only has to scan a few albums.  Once you get
it to respond right then fix everything and go back to your original
library folder.  I did that when I was having problems with album
artist way back.
