Hi alltogether,

I have some HQ ALAC-Files ripped from DVDs that I play over my
Squeezebox reciever.
As the reciever does not playback ALAC natively it ist transcoded by
the server to FLAC. So far so good.

But when I look up the playback details I find the information as
follows:

Bitrate: 1534kb/s VBR (converted to 705kb/s FLAC)

I thought FLAC and ALAC were similar in compression ratio and are both
lossless formats.
So how can it be explained that the FLAC is half th bitrate than the
original ALAC?

Thanks for an explanation.

Yours Celindir
