With lower flac compression levels the server or the player needs less
cpu power to decode the flac file, the trade off is disk space or
bandwith.
If your servers cpu and ram is marginal you may benefit sligthly by
using less cpu, then the server can use it for other task, for example
be reasonable responsive re you UI comands

and the file is still lossles, so it has the same information
regardless of compression level.

The Transporter had troubles in the past with 24/96 flac with to high
rate, in thoose cases it was solved by going to -5 or less, many encode
with the max setting -8 it saves very little discspace compared to -5 .

So I use -5 for now ( I think this usually is the default level ) but
the Touch itself does not have this problems it can decode any 2 ch
flac file within 24/96 .

On none of the equipment I have had these things made any audiable
difference note that I use the digital outputs.
