What types of files are these? Do you have a multiple item separator
defined in Squeezebox Server's 'My Music' options? If so, what is it?
Here's how I tag such albums (all Flac), although it's probably not for
everyone:
ALBUM=The Complete Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Recordings
ARTIST=Tony Bennett
ARTIST=Bill Evans
ALBUMARTIST=Tony Bennett & Bill Evans
ALBUMARTISTSORT=Bennett, Tony & Evans, Bill
This has the following behavior:
- The artist name shown in album listings will be 'Tony Bennett &
Bill Evans'.
- When browsing albums sorted by artist, the album will appear with
Tony Bennett's other albums, but it would follow any 'only Tony
Bennett' albums. This is due to adding '& Evans, Bill' in the
ALBUMARTISTSORT field. You could just as easily leave that off and
the album would be sorted among Tony Bennett's other albums.
- The album will be listed among the albums for both Tony Bennett
and Bill Evans. This is due to having two ARTISTs defined.
- 'Tony Bennett', 'Bill Evans' and 'Tony Bennett & Bill Evans' will
all appear in the artist list.
It's the last point that some people might object to, thinking that
having artists such as 'Tony Bennett & Bill Evans' clutters up the
artist listing. I like having them, as I can navigate to specific
albums easier and can also find all of their collaborations. A better
example would be 'Gearge Adams & Don Pullen', who recorded many albums
together. It essentially becomes like 'Simon & Garfunkle', although you
immediately think of the latter as a musical group.
