Other items that could be messing you up. Consistency of the Album Artist tag if you have it set.
The big one would be if you have ID3V1 and ID3V2 tags. Mp3tag will indicate if you have both types of tags, but it will not necessarily edit both sets of tags. I assume you have MP3's. You also want to watch for other odd tag types getting mixed up. ID3 tags in FLAC will mess you up. APE tags in FLAC or MP3, etc. If you can, it's best to have only one type of ID3 tag for MP3 or the Vorbis tags for FLAC.
