Yep the only thing the puid tag indicates is that genpuid/mipmixer was
able to match the fingerprint for that track to the server and thus
downloaded the analysis tag. To put it another way, if the puid tag is
missing then it means that your computer calculated the analysis tag
locally for that file--which is no problem--it just makes the process
take longer.

I'm not sure how recent that person's experience is but the MIP servers
as of last weekend (last time I ran a genpuid) are still working fine
(after having some severe problems the last few months of 2011).
