Afraid it didn't work;still getting file names instead of tags showing. I deleted the server.prefs file not the entire folder and as you say my plugins remained in place there was a minimum of settings to fix. I think I am going to drop this as it isn't affecting my listening experience just bugs me that visually it isn't quite right. I will have a closer look at MP3Tag it may become my tagging software in the future. Thanks again
