That's definitely the way to go.  For one, it's much more reusable. 
Granted you can use rewritable CD's, but they aren't terribly
reliable.

The problem with writing audiofiles to CD's is that most software
assumes you want them in audio, "redbook", CD format.  It usually isn't
hard to change the settings to a data CD, but with a USB stick, you can
just use Windows explorer and be done with it.
