That's a problem many of us face. It has led me to where I pretty much don't use any other software for listening to music. I use Mediamonkey to manage my library and to transfer files to other devices, but since Squeezebox devices represent 90% of my listening, most of my efforts are in making things work for LMS. Most devices are rigid in what they can manage with respect to tags that I just don't worry about it. As long as my albums stay together for all my listening I'm happy.
