Hm. Interesting. I have no idea what could cause this but what I would do is install the SongInfo/SongLyrics plugins: http://penguinlovesmusic.de/ipeng-the-iphone-skin-for-squeezecenter/how-to-use-the-ipeng-application/known-issues/lyrics-in-ipeng/ The article is written for iPeng but it's the same for the Squeezebox alone, you just have to access the Lyrics through the context menus then (like you do now).
