A simple search in the forums for "High-Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding" or HE-AAC does not seem to yield any results, so I am curious does anyone know if these encodings will work on a Squeezebox? From what I have read it was developped by Coding Technologies under the trade name CT-aacPlus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Efficiency_Advanced_Audio_Coding) and results in very small files with quite good audio. Obviously FLAC recordings are superior but where storage space is at a premium this might be another option (ie a laptop connection to a squeezebox with only a small or medium sized SSD). I read that the format can be read on many other players and tracks can be ripped with RubyRipper for one(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2055916) but not sure if there are any Windows rippers
