I'd get a BluRay capable drive; a lot of music is being distributed on BluRay, and you can get ripping software specifically for capturing audio from DVD/BR. You might be best served by going the route of buying an internal drive along with an enclosure, as suggested above. Doesn't have to be real expensive.
