NFO files are basically text files that contain XML meta data of media
files. For music see some examples here:
http://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files/music

It's true that NFO files are usually more in use with video files, but
honestly, well maintained artist.nfo and album.nfo files could be the
solution to the tagging problems we have with non-popular music. An
artist.nfo file f. ex. can contain an artist's complete discography,
bio, MusicBrainz ID, paths to artist art and more.
