I am currently playing with this. My set up is to use the asi soundcard in my
control room pc to ingest audio from the studio switcher and then use asihpirec
piped into jack-stdin to get it into jack. From here it goes over the network
to a virtual server on the vmware cluster which connects to jack on the
physical computer. I am then able to use jack-stdout piped to stereotools piped
to Lame piped to Ezstream to go online.

It works in principle but I need to learn more about getting all of the jack
parameters right to prevent xruns and odd things happening.

I have found asihpirec | stereotools | asihpiplay (parameters not shown) to
work extremely well with good stability and low latency. Also asihpirec |
stereotools | lame | ezstream works well too. I see no reason why alsarec or
jack-stdout would not work when piped to PCM stdout. You just need to be aware
of bitwidth, samplerate and endianess. I suspect stereotools Cmd is not yet
refined as it seriously munches CPU power.
