So why did I buy the AudioScience sound card again?

I guess that's why Air Play Direct furnishes new releases in mp3.

Anyhow, I may have the2nd drive mounting problem resolved, and found the save
as selections deep in the rdadmin menu.

The next question concerns the beforementioned sound card. Is there a step by
step procedure for installing the AS HPI driver? I have the
hpilinux-4.06-04.tar.bz2 file but do not know what to do with it

RD does save all audio as wav and having worked with mp3 systems as well I can
tell you the results are 10*6 better. Drive space is cheap.
If you can avoid mp3 as a source, your audio out will be considerably easier to
listen to. There's a thesis that goes with this.

RD has an excellent on board scheduling system which can be set up to create
logs on a daily basis. Ours runs a log for 5 days out at a fixed time every
day. We have 4 days in a year when we need to make a change:
next one is Christmas Day. HOWTO is on the wiki.

I would build a set of clocks that can run 24/7 which a departing jock can
enable to play until the next jock gets in the chair. Top or bottom of the hour
time sync macro carts will ensure it is where you expect it to be at any time.
That way you can day-part music. If you cart each song separately and use the
GROUPS and Scheduler Codes you can get a really good random play from your
library, which does deliver an even spread of play through the library over
time. Ours is running at +-5% for GROUPS and Scheduler Code combination's over
a year. The only thing it does not satisfy is the irritant factor of some songs
for some listeners. That will never change.

Once it's set up you can add a song to the library and it will be automatically
included in the playout according to the criteria you have set up. They are
easy to take out as well.

N.B. A 'New' song will play more often until it catches up with the others.

You can also use this to play out programmes which have been pre recorded and
may play out once or twice, or more in a week.

regards

Robert
