Yep, very standard. This PC does not in fact need any rivendell components on it, it just runs mysql and provides an NFS export of the audio storage directory. It CAN run rivendell, and there is actually something to be said for it as it provides a reliably always on box to run rdcatchd, but it does not have to. > * have the module responsible for voicetracking on another PC (I can't > think of which one it is) Sure, just install rivendell, import the NFS mount from the server under (typically) /var/snd and VT (and everything else) will work from this box. There thends to be a certain amount of swearing inherent in getting the connection to the remote database to work, which is really mysql security friction. > * and have the other functions on another PC. Yep, set this one up exactly as per the voicetracker box but run the other modules.... There are sites with at least a dozen machines set up like this. > Just reading through the wiki, I see some division of parts is possible > (having your music on one PC, having Rivendell on another), but is it > possible to go further than that? Yes, but it really amounts to a full rivendell install on each PC with a shared database and audio store (which works perfectly). You COULD I suppose delete rdairplay on the voice tracker PC, but why bother, having it available just might get you out of a hole sometime.
