Hi,

A while back I there were some messages on this list about difficulties ripping
CD's, the ripper in RDLibrary taking a
long time and ripping at an incorrect sample rate.

This past week I ran into this issue while doing trials on 2.1.1 after having
compiled it on a Ubuntu Hardy machine (and
yes - I know that Hardy is beyond its supported life, but I've got a few
machines that are old enough they just don't
seem to like Lucid very much, but run fine with Hardy. As a result getting
Rivendell 2.1.1 running properly on Hardy
has been something I've worked on).

My issue was that no matter what sample rate I set Rivendell to use, any CD's I
ripped in rdlibrary would use an
incorrect sample rate and the tracks would sound like they were playing back
either too slow or too fast. And the
ripping would take a long time.

I managed to find the solution. Libparanoia was a very old version, by
updating to the latest version - compiling it
from the latest source - it fixed both the slow ripping and the sample rate
issues I was experiencing.

I also found that there was a little improvement in the speed of rip's after
updating to the latest Secret Rabbit Code.

Otherwise this was the last outstanding issue that I've come across running
Rivendell 2.1.1 in Ubuntu Hardy.

Just thought I'd pass on the solution that I found in case it helps anyone else
out who has experienced the "long CD
ripping times" in RDLibrary.

Thanks,

Lorne Tyndale
