I was using the paravel broadcast appliance installer, so never a 
./configure for me. never did figure out the problem, finally just built 
another server, copied the database and audio, pointed everything at 
that, rebuilt the original, rinse repeat, done.

Learned a lot of cool, albeit probably pretty basic, Linux stuff though, 
so i guess not all was lost. I'm just glad it works again.
