Good Morning! Let me start by stating how much I have appreciated being a part of this list over the last several months. Between lurking and asking some of the most obscure questions (as a novice), I have obtained more knowledge than I had ever expected too. So for that, I am tremendously grateful.
Anyway, all of that to say...here is our set-up with some hurdles we have yet to get over... 1. We started off with one RD1 machine which was going to function as the main playout and server for one of our stations and we quickly saw the flexibility that RD allowed. With that, we set up another RD machine (RD2) and had them playing nice, sharing /var/snd. 2. Well, in the last 2 weeks, we added a NAS (2TB Buffalo) and have managed to get /var/snd mounted on it and now have both of those original machines running RDAirplay with no problem. 3. Also, in the last 2 weeks we have built another FM station with 2 other FM stations being built by Dec. 26th, 2011. So...here is our goal...we'll utilize the NAS to house /var/snd and drive the 4 separate RD clients. RD1 will feed one major station (closed loop system utilizing a T1 so we can't put another station on it, etc). RD2 will feed 2 local FM stations. RD3 will feed another 2 FM stations and RD4 will feed 1 FM station in another state. The rationale for grouping the stations this way is the cumbersome way in which our station ids get aired. Also, our format for these stations are identical across the board except for our station id's. So instead of spending 30 seconds at the top of each hour spitting out these id's, we wanted to group the stations geographically. Does that make any sense? If there is a better way please let me know!!! So, my question is two-fold...what is the best approach in making sure each RD machine fires off the right station id and is there more I should be doing in RDAdmin than I realize? Should I be doing something more with Hosts and Services to help divide these stations up? I tried to isolate the stations to see if I could load up station id's specific for those machines but it made the change across the network on all the machines so I reverted back to what was working beforehand. I know there will probably be more questions but I wanted to throw this out to the group for starters. -Terry RenewFM
