Probably your best bet would be to start from scratch on Ubuntu 10.04 or
11.04, which have been more thoroughly tested, and compile Rivendell from
source. It sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn't and in the end, you
will have a working system and will learn (or refresh) a lot in the process.

I can't afford a good sound card unfortunately... my budget is $50 or less and
