In general, I try to plan for something that should take 30 minutes. With 30 minutes in mind, I have a backup good for 24 hours minimum, perhaps with manual intervention, but a l - o - n - g time regardless. Because, you never know. Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. Best case, my 30 minute plan takes 15 minutes, and the backup is completely unnecessary. Worst case, at least the listeners don't notice. My last major automation move took 32 hours without a break, mostly due to someone else's poor planning.
