This hasn't been addressed in the 2.x series - there's some posts from
Fred about it earlier this year, if memory serves, which may be of
interest. Long story short, addressing it properly is a huge amount of
work and very complex.
(I'd still do the upgrade to 2.x anyway - there's a load of great
feature additions that make it very worthwhile)

In this situation who ever closes first loses all edits including
voice tracks when the second instance is closed.
