I also jumped through a lot of frustrating hoops to get edcast_jack to compile and, once I had it going I compared it to darkice. In my experience, darkice ran far more efficiently than edcast_jack. It wasn't even close. Darkice is also being actively maintained, while edcast_jack apparently is not.
