As a related piece of software to this. Have a look at own cloud (http://owncloud.org/). If you set it up right you can sync between hosts (it uses csync on the backend) and you also get a nice web gui on top for other stuff such as photo sharing, media streaming etc.

I've been looking at csync/own cloud for syncing files between sites unrelated to Rivendell.
