I've never been rich enough to afford the ASI cards but from memory you have to have the drivers in place before you do the ./configure in the Rivendell source.

If the configure summary doesn't say Yes before you do the make I don't think it will work.

I also have no idea if you have to do sudo rdalsaconfig with the ASI cards but its worth checking either way.

Folks,

Again many thanks for all the tips and pointers in response to our Arrrgh post about CentOS/Rivendell and my throwing in the towel with that (at least until I get much, much more CentOS proficient)

Anyway, I wanted to give an update as to where we are, and also to see if we can get some pointers with a couple of issues we still have.

Here's what we did:

1) After the main CentOS/Rivendell machine went south (we are not sure exactly what happened, but RDlibrary and RDairplay were not working together, and logging into RDadmin was not possible. It looks like either permissions issues or some sort of corruption of the database may have been the cause).

-- We implemented a backup machine that has RAAbuntu on it to stay on the air -- Got our backup drive with /var/snd/ and verified all the sound files were the same as on the primary /var/snd

Knowing this, we felt a bit better and went about going forward. Also, we had a good backup of the MYsql database.

What we did

-- Decided to try Ubuntu 12 LTS with Rivendell packages
-- Also to dry Debian 6.x with Rivendell on another machine just to see if we could do it and if we liked it.

First thing we decided after installing Ubuntu LTS was that the eye candy had to go. -- removed all of that and installed Gnome (amazing how much snappier it runs)
-- got MYsql database to work
-- able to get VLC to work for us

Our main problem so far:

Getting the Audio Science card to be recognized.

-- downloaded and installed the drivers following instructions we found on the 'net
-- when we run the hpitest, it fails, Rivendell doesn't see the AS card.

any suggestions / instructions for compiling and getting an AS 5100 series card (I believe, off the top of my head it's a 5140).

Thanks!

Rene
