we're using VLC and there are some problems, but I think it's due to our implementation of it, which we plan to change soon.
Right now: VLC is on 24/7, capturing a stream and a macro turns RDairplay to accept the port that VLC is sending to at a given time, while another macro turns it off. Sometimes it works for days at a time, other times, despite restarting it every day, it doesn't work so we have to manually restart. Other users on the list much more expert than me can explain why this is, but I believe it's got something to do with a memory buffer in VLC getting too full. Anyway, with VLC, a better option we've been told is to have a Cronjob that starts and stops VLC from the command line, which is a better way to go than the GUI which our first method uses. I'm sure someone that knows a lot more about this than we do can give you more help, but I thought I'd give it a shot. good luck!
