Hi,

RDAirplay not starting up sounds like a lock file, however I'm wondering
if something else is going on.

Considering your previous experience with the RAM, I'm wondering if you
still might have some type of hardware issue. What you've described
almost sounds like there might be a bad capacitor on either the
motherboard or in the power supply. I've had issues with systems where
things have locked up and / or stopped working, where RAM has tested bad
and it turned out the RAM wasn't actually bad, but there was a bad /
bulging capacitor on either the motherboard or in the power supply.
I've also had systems where the RAM passed the memory tests, but a bad
cap caused other random lockups. You can often see this with a visual
inspection - for what to look for google "Capacitor Plague". Of course
it might not be this, and a visual inspection doesn't always find this
problem, but it doesn't hurt to pop open the case and have a look (and
try a different power supply if you have a spare handy)

Also, you mentioned that you're running Ubuntu 10.04. Did you
kill/disable PulseAudio? I use 10.04 too and I've found one of the
first things I need to do to get sound to work properly is to disable
PulseAudio.
