OK. . . this should get me in the right direction. I'll just have to figure
out how to understand the relays being sent and how the 8x2 understands them.
Thanks for your help!!

To use the 8x2 with Rivendell you need to connect it to a serial port on the
Rivendell workstation. Then configuration is done in rdadmin, (select your host
to edit) manage hosts, gpi/gpo setup. You then add a new switcher instance
selecting the type in the drop down box, Broadcast tools 8x2 will be in the
list, then you set the correct serial port and setup your gpi's and gpo's. the
relay inputs will be used to fire a macro cart with the command needed, ie
start next, fire a liner or jingle, etc. This is all done with macro carts
using the RML commands built into Rivendell. I have a group and range of cart
numbers setup specifically for commands where I program all the macro carts
used for automation. One macro that you will especially need is a stop log
command to attach to the switch command for your network so that the main log
will stop until a relay is fired to continue, this is best placed in a event
for your network in the clock.
Sorry all of this becomes such second nature when you have been using Rivendell
for years, so it's hard for me to go back to basics and explain, but I hope
this will get you pointed in the right direction.
Cheers

Thanks for the suggestions, Tim and Matthew. The BTools 8x2 would be ideal.
We currently use the 8x2 to switch programming sources, but haven't had to
worry about relays for local breaks till now.
