For Broadcast Appliance, this is provided as part of the 'rdselect' package.  
This package is completely optional (and, in fact, rather useless if you're 
running a stand-alone or single server setup), so just remove that package to 
make RDMonitor go away.

If you're installing from source, simply deleting the 'rdmonitor' binary after 
doing 'make install' is your best bet.  I may look into adding a 
'--disable-rdselect' switch for 'configure' in future versions.

Yes, I'd like to find a way to make it play more nicely with the various 
'panel' applets out there.  The challenge is to do so without introducing a lot 
of dependencies on various exotic desktop toolkits (GNOME, KDE, 
<your-desktop-of-the-month>) that are not integral to the core functionality of 
Rivendell.
