IMO, this reaches a point where human intervention becomes necessary; to look
at the log, "hum" the transitions to yourself, and iron out the ones you don't
think are going to work.

Having said that, are you already doing this: code your uptempo and ballad
songs as such, create events such as "UP TUNE" (or similar) that points to the
desired category, put the UP event first in the hour and the slow sweeper and
the Ballad event together every time in the hourly clock and go. This is how,
on a broader level, a lot of us do "All '80s" or "Beatle Brunch" hours, by
surgically selecting the music using the codes.

If you want to back-announce tunes by certain artists, I'd use the voicetracker
and just do it fresh on a daily or weekly basis (if the tunes are scheduled
that far in advance). There's "studio presence", and then there's "artistic
presentation". Since a VxTrack session can take only about 20 minutes, my vote
would be for the latter.

Anything much more than this - again IMO - you'd need an external scheduler.
Several buyout ones that are out there are a decent value.

Subject: [RDD] Scheduler Codes

Hello all,

First off, thanks for the education received while sampling your wisdom on all
things Rivendell and radio. In terms of programming flow, I appreciate the
scheduler for it's ability to protect elements of each event on a clock (such
as tempo, gender, current hits, etc.) I'm curious though about an important
rules setting.

If I can tell the system "Do Not Schedule After", I'd also like to be able to
have a setting on the order of " Always Schedule After". For example, I'd like
to begin the hour with an uptempo song. Or, better yet, I'd like to make sure a
down-tempo sweeper is followed by a calm ballad. This could also apply to key
matching jingles leading into the next song.

Oh, here's another idea: If I create an artist code, could I then follow it
with a back announce cart for that artist? It could fill in between presenters
to at least suggest a studio presence.

Just wondering if someone's come up with a work around (without importing from
another scheduler).

As always, many thanks for your insight!

Steve
