Hello,

I just discovered Rivendell and I love it! I am coming from SAM broadcaster,
which I always struggled with, and Rivendell runs cleaner, faster, and the
segue transitions are perfect.

While I have a background in (non-automated) radio, and enjoy the aesthetic, I
don't currently run a radio station. I do however do a regular live-streamed
video program online, and I want Rivendell to handle all the audio imaging.

I essentially have two major needs for imaging. First, to provide "tweener"
music before the program starts and in extended breaks; and second, to provide
radio style commercial breaks in which I would run ads, promos, liners, etc.
and then a rejoiner.

The challenge is that the live segments can be of any length, so I need a
simple setup where I could start Rivendell in automatic mode, and have it play
random music with the occasional liner, and when I'm ready to start the
program, have it fire an open (I can assign this to a button and make it play
next, I think, when I'm ready), and then have Rivendell switch to manual mode
and stop playing after the open. Then have a break automatically cued up that
doesn't fire until I tell it to. I currently have no traffic concerns nor have
I promised anyone I would play something a certain number of times.

Here's the only complicating factor; I'm a musician myself, and so for the
tweener segments I want to play stuff in a pattern; for example two songs that
are not me (which I already have in a separate group); a positioner identifying
the next song as mine; one of my songs; then repeat as needed.

So I guess what I don't understand is, the limited documentation on Rivendell
always seems to talk about filling all 168 hours of the week with clocks,
creating logs every week, and starting the log at a precise time. I'm looking
for a way to start Rivendell playing tweener music at an arbitrary time before
my show starts. Sort of whenever I want.

So if I'm never going to be on at 4am on a Sunday morning, I don't want to have
to create logs for that daypart, but if I have to add an extra show this
Tuesday, and I don't normally do a Tuesday show, I don't want to have to spend
a lot of extra time putting together a log and sitting there nervously waiting
to start it at an exact moment.

I have tried putting many songs in one cart, and assigning it to a button on
RDAirPlay, but there are two problems: First, as I understand it, Rivendell no
longer randomizes cuts in carts; and secondly, it always shows the artist/song
name of cut 1 no matter how many times I fire it.

I understand completely if there's no way to do this, as I'm not Rivendell's
target market, but if there's a way is love to know how.

Thanks,
-mark
