MariaDB is being adopted as a replacement for MySQL by various Linux distribution projects at this point, though, and aims at being MySQL compatible much more strongly than the others. But yes, it's not entirely certain which way the open source world will go on MySQL now that Oracle owns the trademarks. That said it'd be lovely to see PostgreSQL support in Rivendell, but I recall Fred pointing out there was a lot of MySQL specific code in and it'd take some doing.
