That is how we do it! We simply have a dedicated telephone number setup which goes direct to voicemail, recorded an intro message saying "hi you've called the message line, leave us your request/shoutout along with your name etc" then they record their message and the voice file comes in on the email which can then be played on air.
We us asterisk and it works a treat! Plus it's free, you just need a spare pc to run it on.
