You might also like to try TestDisk from CG software (it's open source and multi-platform): http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk ..or ddrescue from those GNU folks - has recovered a couple of hard disks for me in the past by persistent re-reading of failed sectors. http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ddrescue.html Hopefully you'll get an image file (or most of one) that can be searched for data (TestDisk is good for this bit).
