Somewhat OT, but I'd recommend avoiding meterbridge. It comes nowhere
near implementing either VU meter or PPM characteristics correctly.

A much better package is Fons Adriaensen's jmeters package, versions
0.4.1 or later. These implement standard ballistics and gains for VU
meters and three PPM scales: DIN, BBC and EBU:

Meter Type Meter Spec Gain Spec Default gain
VU meter IS0 60268 part 17 SMPTE RP.155 0 VU = -20 dBFS
Type I PPM (DIN) ISO 60268 part 10 EBU Rec. R68 -9 = -18 dBFS
Type IIa PPM (British) ISO 60268 part 10 EBU Rec. R68 '4' = -18 dBFS
Type IIb PPM (EBU) ISO 60268 part 10 EBU Rec. R68 TEST = =18 dBFS

Another open-source PPM can be found in BBC Research's baptools package
(GPL).
