Sorry, that should read: the machine gets its *DNS* server addresses from
the DHCP server; also, the file is /etc/resolv.conf not /etc/revolv.conf.

It sounds like a DNS issue to me.
When set to DHCP, the machine gets its DHCP server addresses from the DHCP
server. When you change to a static address, it still has the DNS server
addresses it got from the DHCP server... but when you reboot it, those are
gone. It can likely still see the Internet, but it can't translate names to
IP addresses.
What are the contents of /etc/revolv.conf ? That's the file that lists the
DNS servers. It should contain one or more lines like:
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4

Hi All,
Following on from the Post Rivendell Application CD Install, I set the
network to a Static network address, and it worked well.
I then turned the PC off for the night and restarted it the next day.
I was unable to access the internet with Firefox.
Checked the network and it was still at the settings I completed the night
before, Static connection is 192.168.1.130, 255.255.255.0, and 192.168.1.1.
I switched this to DHCP and restarted the network card on exit and tried
Firefox again (did not shut down Firefox), and all my internet connections
were back again.
I tried restarting the network card by going back into static, but this
still did not appear to fix the problem.
Changed the network back to a static, restarted the network card, internet
still okay. Rebooted the PC and back to the same problem, no internet
connection.
Dam, searched and no information on why this could be happening in Cent 5.9
(updated after install).
Any ideas what I should look at now?
Kevin.
