Hi, all. . .

Running Rivendell 2.5.1 on Linux Mint 9.

I'm trying to program my log in such a way as to make sure all required items
run on time, but I run into situations where certain required elements may get
“bumped” due to a “make next” timed event.

Here's an example of what I mean:

11:00:00 – Program Opener

11:00:30 – Program Content

11:13:30 – Program Closer

11:14:00 – Spots

In this example, the first three elements are in one event that has autofill
turned on, and the spots are the first element in a new, timed, “make next”
event. In most cases, the program airs without a problem, and even some filler
audio (PSAs) will air after the program closer before the spots are cued up (in
an effort to not run programming too early or too late). Not all programs have
an opener and/or closer.

However, we have some programs that do not keep consistent program lengths, and
they will sometimes run long. When that happens, the program closer will get
“bumped” off the log to make sure the spots run.

I suppose I could create a clock for every hour for every nuance of our
programming, but a generic clock should, in theory, handle everything I need to
have done--except for those times that the programming runs long and a closer
must be attached.

Is there a way to ensure that elements that must run do indeed run, despite
timing, in situations where 99% of the time you want to keep the timing rule?

I've thought of several scenarios that might help me do what I want to do. . .
if any of these exist:

    •

Make a cart number active or inactive via RML command in a macro cart
    •

Run a series of audio carts in a macro cart, where the log recognizes that a
macro must first run its course before going on to the next element in the log
and/or the next timed event.
    •

Use two logs to play a particular cart on a line from Log 2, then go back to
Log 1. . . but, how do I know what cart is on what line on the log?
    •

Have Rivendell recognize some sort of “if/then” language.
    •

Have a way to “merge” or “splice together” a number of different carts (that
is, to make the 3 carts of the opener, content, and closer become one cart).

Any insight? (I hope I've made my problem clear enough. . .)
