The path to ad server: My (playout) server ---> Icecast/Ad server ---> Listeners Basically, I send my stream to a remote Icecast server. At the same location, there is a ad insertion server. Side by side. The ad server monitors my Icecast stream, and waits until the metadata " ADWTAG_124000_START=0 - AD BREAK " shows up in my stream. When this happens, the ad insertion server takes control of my Icecast stream. Turning the volume down on my actual stream. And begins playing ads. Now that number, in the metadata, "_124000" tells the ad server to play ads for 2 minutes, or four :30 spots. When that is done, the ad server turns the volume up on my stream.
