I would *love* to see something new in Rivendell : the ability to be
notified of a failed RDCatch event (e.g. a failed download) by any means
available, like an e-mail, or a personalized script.

rdcatch doesn't download, though; it records in real time (unless there's a download feature I don't know about).

Among the possible failure modes are:

1) The desired audio is there at the proper time, but the recording never starts;

2) The desired audio is there at the proper time, and the recording starts, but is aborted prematurely, leaving a partial recording only;

3) The audio is there; the recording appears to produce a file of the expected size, but when it is played back, some or all of it is white noise;

4) The audio is not there, the wrong audio is there, or the recording is triggered at the wrong time, producing a recording of the expected size but with the wrong content.

In my experience mode 3) is the most common failure mode, and I've never been able to figure out why it happens. Recording in mono and omitting normalization seems to reduce the frequency of these failures.

It's difficult to imagine a mechanism that can test for all these failure modes.
