This is largely a function of the audio driver setup in use.  For ASI cards, a 
(relatively small) amount of trim for the analog ports can be applied in 
RDAdmin->ManageHosts->AudioPorts.  Note that this is for analog only, while 
“digital” ports (e.g. AES3 or LiveWire) have their levels defined in the card’s 
firmware.  For ALSA setups, it will depend entirely on what (if any) level set 
options are offered by the hardware in question.  Generally, any 
ALSA-compatible mixer can be used to tweak whatever settings are available.  
Not all ALSA devices even *have* mixers (the LiveWire ‘soft-card’ for example 
has no mixer whatever).  As for JACK, there are no JACK-level trim controls 
(although levels may be able to be trimmed at whatever device the jackd(1) 
server process is bound to).
