We are on exactly the same page ! I may go a step further, in that I do not update any machine, unless or until there is a compelling need. Something has failed, or there is a new feature that simply can't be had otherwise, AND is a desired feature. More often than not, I simply upgrade the whole system, hardware and all, and do a bare metal install with the latest stable release.
