The “gold standard” for me has always been Sea Level [http://www.sealevel.com]. Quite pricey , but they generally ‘just work’. Plus, they officially support Linux, which means that you can actually get meaningful help from them if you do run into an issue. However, it may be too soon to give up hope just yet on your existing cards. Serial card add-ins can sometimes name their device nodes in unusual ways.
